Divorce form resources for pro-se litigants

DISCLAIMER:  The Courts cannot give legal advice to persons representing themselves. However, forms may be provided or links to other sources of forms and no warranty is made of their fitness for your use, and no legal advice is given or intended by reference to those resources. Any discussion about self-representation is not legal advice.

The following are some sources of forms and discussion about "do it yourself" divorces. The judges make no representation as to how good or bad these forms or the advice may be. If you've gotten this far, then you should be able to do additional internet searches and to also go personally to your local library to seek further assistance.  The county law libraries do not have any forms in them.

CAVEAT:  It is not recommended to do your own divorce if you have children under the age of 18, if you have substantial assets, or if you have real estate property or investment property of any kind (such as stocks, bonds, 401-k, pension or profit-sharing plans).

Divorce Law Handbook from the Texas Young Lawyers Association -- this IS recommended. This is an Adobe PDF formatted document and the district clerk's office usually has some on hand in printed form.

TexasLawHelp.org information and forms - This is a primary source for information and forms and IS recommended.  TexasLawHelp is a project of the Texas Access to Justice Commission and the Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation, in partnership with participating legal aid organizations.  Major funding is provided by the Legal Services Corporation.

Travis County instructions and forms -- Adobe PDF file. Starting on about page 17 is a set of forms that in most cases will be quite satisfactory, if properly filled out.  That's where the legal skill comes in but if you insist on doing your own divorce, then these forms are good formats. Much of the general explanations in the first part of the document will also be helpful in a general sense but some of it is very specific only to Travis County.

Travis County forms - NO children

Texas Divorce Law - a pay site but looks reasonable in cost

Divorce in Texas -- an online guide to a large number of resources, internet and otherwise.

Texas Divorce Forms - a pay site with a large number of individual forms at very low prices.

"Easy" Do It Yourself forms - another pay site advertising a kit.

SUGGESTION:  Some attorneys will do form preparation ONLY for you, not giving you advice and not signing the pleadings or going to court with you, for a modest fee.  You must decide if this is a route that is appropriate for you.  Also, many attorneys will do an initial consulation for a modest fee and in this consultation you may be better able to decide if doing your own divorce is appropriate.

REMINDER: The judges have not reviewed the above forms and give no assurance, opinion or legal advice in connection with you use, if any, of any of the resources referenced above.
