User block (where your username is shown)

This is the block where your username shows at the top of the block. It is the primary navigational area for content and control of your personal aspects of the site.

  • 1. Main Topics: Click here and see the entire taxonomy, i.e. topical organization, of the entire site. Clicking on one of the topics in the expanded list will open (in the center, main column) every item of content that was categorized under that topic.
  • 2. Blog Topics: Every blog topic for which an entry has been made will be listed here. Click on a topic and the center column will list every blog entry tied to that topic. Those items expand similarly to the Main Topics.
  • 3. Files: All forms and files are categorized. Click on a category and the center column will list every file/form tied to that topic. Those items expand similarly to the Main Topics.
  • create content: This opens a drop-down list allowing you to generate new content as opposed to merely adding a comment to existing comment. You use this if you want to, for example, start a new forum topic, make a blog entry, upload a file for use by others, etc.
  • my blog: So you want to be an online author, exposing your thoughts to the whole world, eh? Write on.
  • my notify settings: Set up how you want to be notified of new content. More on this later.
  • my subscriptions: Lists all of the items to which you have 'subscribed' to be kept current on.
  • recent posts: Click here for a list of all of the latest individual postings by any person. Quick way just to see what's going on.
  • news aggregator: This lists all of the news feeds that are subscribed. News feeds are automatic links from other web sites, many of which are news sites, or blog sites.
  • my account:
  • Your account details. You should be sure it has the following selections made:

    • signature:
    • Fill this in if your username is "fanciful" and does not clearly indicate who you are.

    • Auto Subscribe:
    • Check this box. It will cause you to be "subscribed" to any item you either post or comment upon and you'll get an email when there is any additional change.

    • Time Zone Selection:
    • Texas is -6, or during daylight savings time, it's -5.

    • Open new window for weblinks:
    • I prefer to check this so if I click on a link it opens in a new window and I don't lose my current place.

    • Password: Use this to change your password.
  • log out: duh
