Judge: Guilford L. Jones, III

|
When to email or NOT email directly to the judge.
|
Attorneys --- CAVEAT: contacts to the court, including submission of proposed orders or other documents, should normally be submitted to the Administrator or one of the staff rather than directly to the court unless you know that the judge is anticipating your communication or have reason to believe that direct emailing will be appropriate. To do otherwise may only delay action on your communication.
All messages re: pending cases will be filed in the case file.
Any communication to the Court or staff via e-mail must comply with Rules 21 and 21a, T.R.C.P., and to do so by the fastest means available to other affected parties or counsel. Also, the provisions of Canon 3B.(8) of the Code of Judicial Conduct should be carefully reviewed before any person connected with a case attempts any communication with the judge or court personnel.
|
WHERE TO SEND EMAILS:
As a general rule, email staff. More on that below.
Exceptions (when you should email the judge directly).
When replying to an email from the judge (sort of obvious).
When you've been asked to email the judge directly.
If you think it should be for the judge's eyes only.
Staff emails:
Administrator -- Eva Walla. She will handle all setting requests, scheduling of the judge's appointments and all matters of general court adminstration. She will handle most matters directly and will forward to to the judge anything that she feels he should have his hands directly on.
You can't go wrong by emailing Eva but if you have a specific issue OTHER THAN SETTINGS that Lisa or Leigh can help with directly -- and experience will tell you that -- then you are welcome to email them directly.
Criminal & indigent defense issues -- Lisa Bell
Remember, only Ms. Walla does the settings.

How to get "fully" subscribed
First of all, why bother? You will then be able to access the full features of the website for the group which may have files of interest, bookmarks to related websites, and archives of older messages of interest.
YahooGroups is a little wierd in that there are really two classes of membership: email only and full group site membership. For the fullest experience, you need to have full site membership. These instructions will help you accomplish that. This assumes you are already a group member and getting emails, but are unable to access the group site on the web AND that you have a Yahoo ID. If you don't have the ID, look further down this page.
YOU MAY WANT TO PRINT OUT THESE INSTRUCTIONS.
IF YOU ALREADY HAVE A YAHOO ID & HAVE BEEN SIGNED UP IN A GROUP BY A MODERATOR:
Log into Yahoo Groups with your Yahoo ID. Do this by going to the following URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com
m/
If your browser is not set to automatically log you in, you will come to a place prompting for you to log in. It will look something like this:
|
Click on the Registered Users link
|
Your next screen should be:
|
|
Depending on whether you already have groups that you are linked to, or not, you'll come to one of a couple of different pages. If you have some groups, it will look like:
|
in which case you click on the group you are interested in.
|
But if Yahoo finds no existing groups for you, you'll come to:
|
Click on that membership wizard and follow the directions.
|
But if you DO have groups listed but that you are not yet "activated" in, you can select the relevant group and the next page will look approximately like:
|
in which case you should click on the "Activate your membership" link.
Click on 'Activate your Membership' and you should get the following message:
When you join a Yahoo! Group, your membership is associated with a specific email address. If that email address isn't connected to the Yahoo! ID you use to access the group on the Web; is not verified; or is connected to more than one of your Yahoo! IDs, some of your group memberships may not be displayed on the My Groups page.
The Membership Wizard can help you locate your group memberships using the information listed in your Account Info. You are currently signed in as capn_justice2002. We will look up the information for that Yahoo! ID. (If you want to use a different Yahoo! ID, Sign in as a different user.)
Please press the "Continue" button below, and we will walk you through the process.
|
Click on continue. You'll come to a screen like:
|
click on the "verify" option.
The system will send you a verification code to the 'real' address you specified when you clicked, and you'll be sitting at a screen that will allow entry of the code.
Go check your email now. The verification code usually comes pretty quickly, but if not, you can leave that browser screen because the email from Yahoo will have a browser link you can click on to get back to the same screen.
When you get that email, and enter the authorization code into the screen, your email address will now be linked to that group. You may have to repeat the process for other groups you belong to.
|
IF YOU DON'T ALREADY HAVE AN ID:
If you attempt to go to the group without a Yahoo ID, it will show you as a 'guest'
and give you a choice to 'Register.' That'll be near the upper right hand corner, e.g.
Click on that and you'll be sent to the registration process and once that is complete, you'll be sent back to your group.
You pick what your ID is going to be. It does NOT have to be like your email address because under the ID you can set up different "profiles." Under my "judge33tex" I am, for example, also "beemerjudge" so you can later be known by a more recognizable "handle." The ID is used merely to access Yahoo.
Some tips on the ID:
-- apparently must start with lower case.
-- start with a letter.
-- can use an underscore, but no spaces or other special characters.
You'll fill in a LOT of information and if the ID you pick is unavailable, the system will suggest some or you can try again to pick your own. Once you get entirely through the ID process you can log in with that ID (and password) and it will show all the groups you are subscribed to.
You're done. The system should take you right back to your group, but if not, then navigate back to the group (www.yahoo.com/groups/group{groupname} (replacing {groupname} with the name of the actual group)) and sign in.
I hope that these instructions help someone. Yes, it IS confusing!
